We are responsible for eighty (80) miles of road and forty-five (45) bridges, eight hundred (800) culverts, guard rails, signs and a host of other duties. The Highway Department has dump trucks with 300 horse power to plow, sand and gravel; a power grader with 250 horses; chain saws; tree chippers; sidewalk plows; one ton trucks with plows and dump bodies; powerful loaders; backhoes; and a host of other motorized equipment.     Northfield Residents: Pursue a New Career With VSAC's Workforce Development Funding Program Northfield Economic Development Office August 25, 2022 Grants and zero-interest forgivable loans are available for Early Childhood Education, Nursing, Trades, Dentistry, and More. Go to https://www.vsac.org/workforce-development-funding. The Vermont Legislature passed a bill in June 2022 to invest in Vermont’s workforce shortage. VSAC, in partnership with other Vermont agencies, will offer grants and interest-free forgivable loans that will help eligible students afford the degree or training they need to pursue the career they want, such as skilled trades, early childhood education, nursing, mental health care, and more. Here are the areas where funding is available.   • Northfield, Vermont Cross Brothers Dam Removal RFP

    The Town of Northfield, in partnership with Vermont Natural Resources Council, is seeking bids to remove the Cross Brothers Dam on the Dog River. The project will generally involve removal of the concrete dam and appurtenant structures; removal of the accumulated sediment; stream channel restoration; installation of stone armor at the sanitary sewer crossings and along the north riverbank; and site restoration. A site visit was held May 8, 2026 and bids are due by 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 21, 2026. The approximately 400 acre Northfield Town Forest property is located to the east of Northfield Village, south and east of Turkey Hill and west of the summit of Paine Mountain. The land is part of a large block of contiguous forest running north-south along the Irish Hill-Paine Mountain ridge, with a Route 12 boundary to the west and Interstate 89 to the east. Roughly 17 acres of the property are open field, and the remainder forested or wetland.
