The Northfield Fire Department’s Museum was founded in 1998 after a display had been done for the Northfield Historical Society.

The Museum is located in a small room in the Northfield Fire Station located on Wall Street.

Among the items on display is an original Northfield Fire Department leather hose that was used in the 1870s.

Other artifacts include a 1836 Hand Pumper named the “Governor Paine,” a large amount of Northfield Fire Department pictures, a brass bell that was originally on a 1932 Northfield Pumper, nozzles,  fire extinguishers, model fire trucks, etc.

This collection represents the history and tradition of the Northfield fire service for over one hundred and fifty years.

The Northfield Fire Museum is open by appointment by calling Fire Department Historian William C. Lyon at 1-802-485-6121 (W) or at 1-802-485-8443 (H).

 

Picture of Cast Iron Steamer with Three-Horse Hitch

Seen at left is an antique cast iron steamer with a three-horse hitch that was recently (01/27/07) donated by Edna Kain and Cecelia Barnes.  It had been displayed at the former Northfield News office on Central Street and is now on display at our museum.
